Abstract

Many of the Prophet Joseph Smith’s ancestors and family lived in Vermont and New Hampshire. Original homes and buildings document their time there. The Tunbridge, Vermont, Town Office houses original entries of Joseph and Lucy Mack Smith’s marriage and the birth of their first children. Lucy’s brother, Stephen Mack, was a prosperous businessman in Tunbridge, Vermont.

John Mudget was Stephen Mack’s business partner, who gave Stephen’s sister, Lucy, one thousand dollars as a wedding present, when she married Joseph Smith, Sr. His gravestone is located in the Hutchinson Cemetery, Tunbridge, Vermont.
